Celestron Cometron 114 21079 Review

PROS / This stable telescope offers great clarity of the night sky.

CONS / The telescope does not have any computerized components.
VERDICT / The Celestron Cometron is a good telescope for beginners between its portability and easy assembly. While you have to manually navigate through the sky, the telescope is easy to use and offers clear images.

Designed specifically for viewing comets, the Celestron Cometron 114AZ is a reflector type of telescope. Its portability and ease of both assembly and use makes it a good telescope for beginners and for kids. While it lacks computerized components to make it especially friendly for beginners, this model has excellent maneuverability.
The Cometron does not require tools to assemble it. We were able to quickly put this telescope together, making it a good option for beginners and kids. Weighing only 9 pounds, the telescope is portable and easy to maneuver, which is particularly important if you want your kids to use it.
Like the best beginner telescopes, the Cometron has a finderscope that provides you with a larger field of view, helping you align your telescope to the area of the sky you want to observe. When testing the telescope, we found that it offers a clear picture, and we were able to find bodies of light quickly. However, the image did bleed into focus, and it took us a while to focus the telescope.
Compared to other reflector scopes on our lineup, the Cometron has below-average aperture and focal length. The 114 mm aperture gathers less light than similar scopes, which typically exceed 120 mm in their apertures. As a result, this telescope does not offer the same level of clarity and detail as the best telescopes for beginners. With a focal range of 3.95, it provides a restricted level of magnification when focusing on a small field of vision.
The Cometron received a high stability score. The altazimuth mounting allows you to maneuver the telescope both vertically and horizontally. Mounted on a steel tripod, this telescope is both stable and easy to maneuver. However, this telescope is completely manual. There are no motors or computerized components to help you track celestial objects.

There is a two-year warranty on this telescope. You can find support resources on the Celestron website, including an online user manual and FAQs. The website also has a live chat option and email address to contact technical support.
The Celestron Cometron 114AZ is a good option for a first manual telescope. The model is easy to set up, use and maneuver. While it lacks compatibility with digital components, like a GPS or star tracker, this manual telescope offers a clear and detailed image of the night sky.
