PROS / The Pro Boat Recoil is able to recover quickly from flips and submarining.
CONS / There is a minor learning curve with this remote control boat.
VERDICT / The Pro Boat Recoil is fast and thrilling. It reaches high speeds and provides a lot of entertainment.
The Pro Boat Recoil remote control boat is fast, reliable and easy to use. It outperformed every other RC thanks to its outstanding handling, fast speeds and decent battery life. It has an extremely convenient self-righting feature so you don’t have to spend your runs worrying about your boat getting stranded. Whether you are using this boat to race or just as a fun toy, the Recoil is a fine choice. We have awarded it our Top Ten Reviews Gold.
The Pro Boat Recoil is fast and loud. It can accelerate much faster than other boats and reaches top speeds of up to 25 miles per hour. If you have a clear day with little wind and calm waters, it can even reach speeds of around 30 miles per hour.

The Recoil may be too intense for some. Beginners may find its fast speeds a little intimidating and hard to control. The boat does have a slightly higher learning curve than most RC boats, but we expect that with a high-performance machine such as this. The boat skips briskly on the water and doesn’t struggle making turns in either direction. We found that the boat does occasionally submarine. However, the Recoil was quicker to recover than most. It hops right back out of the water and gets right back up to speed without missing a beat, and without taking in a lot of water. If you do make a turn too sharply, you may risk flipping the boat. Since the boat has a self-righting feature, it will automatically flip itself right back over though.
When comparing runs with the Recoil to other RC boats, we found that it was just a lot more thrilling to drive. It can pretty much handle whatever you throw at it. We were able to stir up the water, make sudden turns and wide turns, slice through waves and even get some airtime and do a few flips here and there. The speed and power are notably higher than most remote control boats can give you.
This radio controlled boat comes ready to run, complete with a battery pack. You get 10-minute run times with the Recoil, and although this isn’t the longest run time for an RC, it certainly isn’t below average. You may want to purchase an extra battery pack so you can extend your time on the water.
Besides including the battery and a charger for the boat, Pro Boat has thrown in a 2.4GHz pistol-grip transmitter with the Recoil. The transmitter has a wireless range of 400 feet, which is far enough to tackle lakes and ponds and of course your backyard pool. This is about average for RC boats, only a handful have a range that is slightly higher, at 450 feet. Unfortunately, you’ll have to purchase the transmitter's batteries separately – it requires 4 AAs. You also get a nice stand to show off your boat when you aren’t hitting the water. Some RC boats come with extra propellers, but this one does not.

The Recoil RC boat comes in a bright red color with yellow accents. Its bold colors definitely stand out from other boats. It’s 17 inches long and 4 inches tall and wide. It just weighs 1 pound and is small and light enough to toss in a bag or a carry with you to the pond. This boat has a water-cooled brushless motor, which prevents it from overheating and leaves you with longer run times.
We found that this remote control boat handled crashes with a cement pool wall and collisions with other boats completely unscathed. Some crashes with other boats flipped it upside down, but we still were able to use the self-righting feature to flip it right back up. The Recoil’s hatch has a tight seal, but you still should use some hatch tape.
Pro Boat offers a 30-day warranty with its Recoil boat. The company also sells replacement parts that you can order online or by phone. The Pro Boat Recoil is the top remote control boat in our comparison. It zips through the water at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. However, despite these high speeds you still don’t have to worry about the boat getting stuck since it is able to reemerge after submarining, and it can flip itself over thanks to its self-righting feature. The Recoil has a strong battery life and turns well in both directions. Beginners will have to adjust to its impressive acceleration. However, this boat is very fun to drive with a little practice.
