Securifi Almond Review

What makes this booster unique is its 2.8-inch touchscreen. This may seem like an odd addition to a Wi-Fi extender, but it enables you to make changes to the Almond's settings on the device itself. You won't need to use your computer to enter an IP address or anything. This is a boon for many people who are less technically savvy. Getting your home network up and running shouldn't be limited to those who have knowledge of networking technologies.

That said, if you do know your way around a router or Wi-Fi booster, then using a touchscreen can be pretty annoying. Happily, you still have the option of accessing the Almond via IP address if you'd rather do it that way. We're happy with the many different options the Almond gives users. The more options you have, the more it feels like you actually own the device.

There are a few disappointing things about the Almond. First, the range isn't very impressive. Second, it only works on the 2.4GHz band, which can drastically lower throughput when it's working as a Wi-Fi extender. Essentially, it can only send or receive at any given time – not both. This effectively cuts throughput in half.

While the Securifi Almond isn't the best Wi-Fi extender on the market, it's extremely easy to set up and use. We're happy to see a new approach to wireless network devices that caters a little more to less tech-savvy individuals, as most people don't have much knowledge of networking. Despite its flaws, the Almond comes out as a good Wi-Fi booster.
