Microsoft is partnering with BMW to bring Skype to its cars

Microsoft is expanding its partnership with DMW to bring Skype For Business to its BMW iDrive vehicles. BMW was one of the first automakers to add Office 365 services to its vehicles, and this latest feature will allow owners to hold Skype meetings in their cars through the built-in entertainment system.

The system will operate by sending meeting notifications, allowing drivers to enter without having to manually enter conference details. BMW will also enable more stringent integration with calendars, contacts and task lists from the Microsoft Exchange service. BMW is also planning to provide Skype for Business in France, Germany and the UK initially before expanding to other countries.

BMW also revealed earlier this year that it plans to integrate Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant into some cars as part of Microsoft's vision. BMW plans to allow drivers to access Cortana via the control panel screen, with easy access to task lists, reminders, news, events and other Cortana features.
